Solitary bee

There are a great many types of bees. The particular bee in this painting is called a solitary bee and has a green furry back. She and her kind place their young in hollow reeds. They create a wax next inside, fill it with honey and larvae, cap it off and place another on top. The baby bees have the honey in their little nest as their first meal, chew their way through the wax, and are then on their own.
